Designed for Black Dog Press, Fractured Light focuses on a key body of work by the British artist Johnnie Cooper, which was instrumental in his transformation from sculptor to painter. Throughout the 1990s, with a renewed dedication, Cooper embarked on an industrious and experimental trajectory with paint and collage. Both the design and the scale of the book aimed to evoke the experience of viewing the striking collages in the flesh. Many of the works were presented in actual size and the almost tangible cover detail was preserved by the strategic placement of typography. The vibrant and nuanced colour became the objective in choosing the print materials and processes.
